I knew Jeremy Lin was an insanely huge sports story, but until today I didn’t realize just HOW big, and HOW misleading it could be to a non-basketball fan.
I’m in the sports department of my schools radio station, and I was sitting in the news room today when someone from the news department turned around and said “I really know nothing about basketball, but mind if I ask you a few questions?” I said sure and it started off with the basics
- Kobe or MJ?
- Lebron or Kobe?
- What’s going on with people not believing that Melo can mesh well with the team?
Then he came out with
- Who’s the better player, Melo or Lin?
He was legitimately shocked when I said Melo was the better, more talented basketball player. Just based on what he’s been hearing the past week, he thought that Lin was a top tier player in the league.
- Who’s better, Rose or Lin?
He was even more shocked when I answered immediately with Rose. He was sure the answer would be Lin based on what he’s seen and heard from the limited sports sources that he actually pays attention to.
